若い夫婦のための住宅。コンパクトでありながら、お互いに家で仕事や制作活動をすることのある２人が、一緒の時間を楽しみつつも、距離感を調節できるような家を望んだ。

外径2.4m×14.5mの細長い平面を、南北に45度触れた長方形の敷地に対角に配置すると、建物は南北に正対し、2つの三角形の余白は、南側の日当たりのよい庭と、北側の前面道路に面した庭となり、周辺の住宅や前面道路と適度な距離をとりながら、畑や薪置き場、駐車スペースといった施主の要望を受け止める。

内部は窓の取り方と、床レベルや天井高さに変化をもたせて、一続きの空間の中にさまざまな居場所をつくった。それぞれの場所が南北のどちらかに大きな窓を持つことで、閉塞感はなく、外部とのつながりも感じられる。短手方向に出窓のような空間を設けて耐力壁を確保することで、細長い空間を遮ることなく一続きの空間とし、視線が長い距離に抜けること、窓から外部を取り込むことで、コンパクトでありながら開放感のある空間とした。

A house for a young couple. They both work and create at home, so they wanted a compact house where they could enjoy time together while also being able to adjust the distance between them.

The long and narrow plan, 2.4m x 14.5m in outer diameter, is placed diagonally on a rectangular site that touches north and south at 45 degrees, so the building faces north and south, and the two triangular spaces become a sunny garden on the south side and a garden facing the front road on the north side, and while maintaining a moderate distance from the surrounding houses and the front road, it accommodates the client's requests for fields, firewood storage, and parking space.

Inside, the placement of windows, floor levels, and ceiling heights are varied to create various places to stay within a continuous space. Each place has a large window on either the north or south side, so there is no sense of claustrophobia and a sense of connection to the outside. By creating a bay window-like space on the short side and securing a load-bearing wall, the long and narrow space is made into a continuous space without being blocked, and by allowing the line of sight to extend over a long distance and bringing in the outside through the window, it is a compact yet open space.
